The fun in designing this project was in bringing together his love of the outdoors, antiques and tradition with her more contemporary and dressed up sensibilities. Our strategy was to layer down-to-earth livable furnishings over a more formal architectural envelope.
We began by adding extensive wainscoting, custom cabinetry and gorgeous lighting to the center hall, family room and breakfast room, which brightened up the dark spaces and formalized the traditional style of the home. Then we selected more casual and even rustic finishes and furnishings for the entire first story evoking the clients’ love of color and texture in a mixture of new, antique, collectable and found pieces. Together we created a playful, comfortable family home they can be proud to welcome their guests into.
